5 simple tips for stay at home moms
to manage time and stay productive

Being a stay-at-home mom is a rewarding yet challenging role. Balancing household chores, childcare, and personal time can sometimes feel like a juggling act. However, with some effective time management strategies, you can stay organized, productive, and maintain your sanity. Here are five simple tips to help you manage your time efficiently and stay productive as a stay-at-home mom:

create a daily routine

Establishing a daily routine can provide structure and stability to your day. Start by creating a basic schedule that includes designated times for waking up, meals, naps, playtime, chores, and relaxation ( Yes, you need this too!). Try creating a routine that’s easy to follow and stick to the same thing each day.  Hey, life happens and sometimes there are other activities that get in the way.  I totally get it.  Just pick up where you left off and continue with the daily routine when you return home.

Having a routine helps both you and your child know what to expect, reducing stress and chaos.

Once you create a routine, you can begin to customize different parts of it.  You may want to create a nap time routine or a bedtime routine to help keep things on track.  For me those were always big ones because kids become very cranky when they’re tired!

prioritize tasks

With so many responsibilities competing for your attention, it’s essential to prioritize tasks based on their importance and urgency. Make a to-do list at the beginning of each day, focusing on the most critical tasks that need to be accomplished. Many of you who read my blog know, I am a big believer in lists.  Lists are my favorite way to stay organized and set priorities because they keep daily activities more manageable and prevent moms from feeling constantly overwhelmed.  For more on lists, see my post on how to Make Lists To Save Time And Stay Organized

set realistic goals

As a stay-at-home mom, it’s crucial to set realistic goals for yourself. Understand that you may not be able to accomplish everything in a single day, and that’s okay. Set achievable goals that align with your priorities and commitments. Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small, and be kind to yourself if things don’t go as planned.  Life can be chaotic. You’ve got this!

delegate and ask for help

You don’t have to do everything on your own. Delegate tasks to your partner, older children, or family members to lighten your load. I like to ask my older kids to do small tasks around the house like empty the dish washer and vacuum their rooms.  This helps free up some time for focusing on tasks that are the priority for that day.

Don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it. Whether it’s hiring a babysitter for a few hours or enlisting the help of a cleaning service, outsourcing certain responsibilities can give you more time to focus on essential tasks or simply take a well-deserved break.  This is a tough one for me because I feel a need to be in control.  After all, I am the one who made the list, right?  The answer is no.  As time goes by, I realize more that just because I have the title of “stay at home mom” doesn’t mean I have to do it all myself.  So, ask for help whenever you can.  It makes life so much easier.

practice self care

Remember to take time for self-care at some point during your busy day. I like to add it to my list of daily activities so that it feels like a priority, and it doesn’t get forgotten.

Taking care of yourself is essential for maintaining your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Schedule regular “me time” to engage in activities that recharge and rejuvenate you, like reading a book, going for a walk, or taking a yoga class. When you take care of yourself, you’ll be better equipped to take care of your family and handle the demands of daily life.

Managing time and staying productive as a stay-at-home mom requires planning, organization, and flexibility. By implementing these simple tips into your daily routine, you can create a harmonious balance between caring for your family and taking care of yourself. Remember that it’s okay to ask for help when needed and to adjust your strategies as your circumstances change. With patience and perseverance, you can thrive as a stay-at-home mom while managing your productivity and well-being.
