The everyday adventures

of a stay-at-home mom

Welcome to a day in the life of a stay-at-home mom. With two school-age children life is more chaotic than ever.  The days are filled with after school activities, homework and more. If you’ve ever wondered what our days look like, grab a seat and let me give you the inside scoop!

mornings

Mornings in our household typically start with a flurry of activity. Getting everyone up, dressed, and ready for the day can sometimes feel like a three-ring circus, but we somehow manage to make it work. Since breakfast is such an important meal, fueling both kids and parents for the day is crucial. From cereal to scrambled eggs, we aim for something quick yet nutritious to kickstart our mornings. When breakfast is on the table, the rush is on to make it to the school bus in time.

daily household activities

Once the kids are off to school and the house quiets down, it’s time to enjoy some much needed “me” time.  My favorite activity for “me” time is heading to the gym. Taking time for yourself is so important for stay-at-home moms.

Feeling refreshed and energized, it’s time to tackle household chores and errands. Laundry, cleaning, and grocery shopping are all on the agenda.  After reviewing my list for the day and setting priorities for what needs to be done, I quickly get to work.

school's out

The real fun begins when the school bus pulls up and the kids come bounding through the door. Afternoons are a whirlwind of activities, from homework sessions to extracurriculars.  On any given day there are a multitude of things going on simultaneously.  Whether it’s baseball practice or dance class, bowling practice or Tae Kwon Do, shuttling kids from one activity to the next is definitely one of the more chaotic times of the day.

typical afternoon

Of course, being a stay-at-home mom also means wearing many hats. I’m not just a chauffeur and cheerleader – I’m also a referee, mediator, and occasional superhero when crises arise. There are many afternoons filled with sibling squabbles of he said, she said and the occasional forgotten science project. Handling these days with patience and a good sense of humor is key.

family meals

Dinnertime is another opportunity for us to come together as a family. We gather around the table to share stories about our day, savoring homemade meals and enjoying each other’s company. It’s a chance to reconnect and bond after a busy day apart.

time to wind down

Evenings are all about winding down and preparing for the next day. We tackle homework assignments, pack school bags, and lay out clothes for the morning rush. And then, finally, it’s time for bedtime routines – teeth brushing, bedtime stories, and goodnight hugs.

bedtime

Tucking the kids into bed each night, I can’t help but feel grateful for the chaotic yet beautiful life we lead. Being a stay-at-home mom of school-age children is no small feat, but it’s a role filled with love, laughter, and endless adventures. And for that, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
