top 5 habits
of an organized
stay-at-home mom

Being a stay-at-home mom is a rewarding but challenging role that requires juggling many responsibilities. From managing the household to taking care of the kids, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. I think we can all agree that being a stay-at-home mom is one of the toughest jobs out there. But with a little bit of organization, you can take some of the chaos out of your everyday life. Being organized can help make your days run more smoothly so you can enjoy more quality time with your family. Check out my top five habits of an organized stay-at-home mom and learn how you can be one too!

create a daily schedule

One of the best habits of an organized stay-at-home mom is to create a daily schedule. This helps you keep track of what needs to be done and when. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Plan the Night Before: Spend a few minutes each evening planning the next day. Write down the main tasks you need to accomplish, from grocery shopping to kids’ activities. See my page on how to Make Lists To Save Time And Stay Organized
  2. Time Blocks: Divide your day into time blocks. For example, allocate the morning for household chores, the afternoon for outdoor activities, and the evening for family time. This is a great way to make the most of your time.
  3. Be Realistic: Make sure your schedule is realistic.  Packing too much into one day will leave you feeling tired and overwhelmed. Prioritize the most important tasks and leave some time for flexibility.

A well-planned schedule can help you feel more in control and reduce the stress of trying to remember everything.

declutter regularly

A cluttered home can make you feel disorganized and stressed. Regular decluttering can help you maintain a tidy and peaceful environment. Here are some tips:

  • One Room at a Time: Focus on one room at a time. This makes the task less daunting and more manageable. When you finish that one room, you’ll feel so much more accomplished than if you were working on multiple rooms all at once.
  • Donate or Toss: Go through your items and decide what you can donate or throw away. If you haven’t used something in the last year, chances are you don’t need it. See my page on Making Money At Home for tips on how to make some extra cash by selling unwanted items or clothing.
  • Involve the Kids: Get your kids involved in the decluttering process. It can be a fun activity for them, and it teaches them the importance of keeping things organized.

Keeping your home clutter-free can save you time and make it easier to find things when you need them.

use a family calendar

A family calendar is essential for keeping track of everyone’s schedules. Here’s how to make the most of it:

  • Central Location: Place the calendar in a central location, such as the kitchen, where everyone can see it.
  • Color Code: Use different colors for each family member. This makes it easy to see who has what activity at a glance.
  • Update Regularly: Make it a habit to update the calendar regularly. Add new appointments, activities, and reminders as soon as they come up.
  • Use an app:  I like the idea of having a calendar hanging in my kitchen, but if you prefer to do things online, try one of the free calendar apps like Cozi. Everyone in your family shares the calendar and sees all the activities/appointments that are added.  Check out my 5 Must Have Apps to Keep Stay-At-Home Moms Organized for more info.

A family calendar ensures that everyone is on the same page and helps prevent scheduling conflicts.

weekly meal plan

Meal planning can save you time, money, and stress. Here’s how to get started:

  • Plan Your Meals: Spend some time each week planning your meals. Write down what you’ll be having for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Grocery List: Make a grocery list based on your meal plan. This helps you avoid unnecessary trips to the store and reduces food waste.
  • Prep Ahead: Prepare ingredients ahead of time. For example, chop vegetables or cook grains in advance so that meal prep is quicker and easier during the week.

take "me" time

As a stay-at-home mom, it’s important to take care of yourself too. This is one of my favorite habits of an organized stay-at-home mom. We often put ourselves last because we are so busy taking care of everyone else and this causes moms to feel burnout. Here are some ideas for managing self care:

  1. Schedule “Me Time”: Block out some time each day or week just for yourself. Whether it’s reading a book, taking a bath, or going for a walk, make sure you have some time to recharge.
  2. Join a Group: Join a moms’ group or a hobby group. This gives you a chance to socialize and do something you enjoy.
  3. Ask for Help: Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your partner, family, or friends. Everyone needs a break sometimes and you deserve it.

Taking time for yourself helps you stay energized and more effective in your role as a mom.

Being a stay-at-home mom is no easy task, but with a bit of organization, you can make your life easier and more enjoyable.
